Artist: Sarrat Binakol Community - Ilocos Norte
Back
the artist Loom weaving in the Municipality of Sarrat can be traced back since the Spanish Era. The woven fabric became popular in its name “BINAKOL”. The binakol is only found in ILocos Norte particularly in the Municipality of Sarrat. The fabric is inspired with geometric patterns using dark blue denim and white cotton threads as raw material, and accented with bright colored yarn. The design shows the serious and industrious personality of the Ilocanos and their little interest for festivities which the bright colored yarn symbolizes. Minda-Cristina A. Edralin-Jusay ( Tourism Officer- Sarrat Ilocos Norte) is the Representative of the community she is from Sarrat Ilocos Norte Province. Her expertise is weaving as she learned it from their ancestors their community specializes in the design called Binakol and this had become the main source of family income.
